Are you worried that your treadmill isn't enough for your body's workout needs? If you're looking for an all-in-one package for your cardio and resistance exercises, then a vertical climber may be a good option to consider.

The Maxi Climber is a good quality vertical climber that offers a total body workout at an affordable price. In these Maxi Climber reviews, we will explore the details, pros and cons of this machine, as well as how to set up and use it.

Maxi Climber's goal is to help in losing weight, enhancing cardiovascular endurance, and toning the muscles.

About the Brand Maxi Climber

Maxi Climber is manufactured by Inova US. Inova US is part of The Inova Group which is based in USA and Mexico, also doing business in many other countries.

For more than two decades, they have been doing business through direct response TV. Their range of products includes those in fitness, health and beauty, kitchenware and home tools.

Materials and Specifications

Like treadmills and exercise bikes, Maxi Climber is a piece of fitness equipment you can use indoors at your own home gym. It is built to facilitate a workout similar to rock climbing.

For its function, this workout machine is fairly light weight at just about 34 pounds. This makes it easy to remove from the packaging and place or re-position it where you want without an additional pair of hands to help.

When this workout equipment is delivered to you, it is mostly assembled already so it takes less than 30 minutes to set it up. It takes up 24 x 36 inches of floor space when it is unfolded, and it is 84 inches high.

The exercise machine runs manually and the battery included is just for the automatic timer. This timer measures the calories you burn and steps you take once you start using the machine and stops when you stop using it.

The Maxi Climber prides itself with its cold-rolled steel build.

Cold-rolled steel has more tensile and yield strength than hot-rolled steel. This means that it is more durable.

This type of steel has also undergone further processes. This means that it has smoother surface finish and more accurate measurements.

Even though this workout equipment is durable, it can only handle up to 240 pounds of weight.

The part where you put your hands is made of isometric non-stick grips. This means that they have equal measurements and they don't get sticky even when your hands begin to sweat.

This allows a comfortable hold on the handles. The grips are also made to prevent you from slipping.

Slipping could prove to be dangerous when you are working out. This usually happens when your hands sweat and you tend to lose your grip on the equipment.

body fit

The Maxi Climber is a vertical climber designed to facilitate a total body workout.

It is considered a full-body workout machine because it employs most of the muscles in your body. The climbing motion targets your upper and lower body, including your arm, core, and leg muscles.

The repetitive exercise makes you move the whole body as a cardio workout. The resistance comes from your body weight as you mimic rock climbing movements.

Moreover, since the resistance is dependent on your weight, the manufacturer claims that this makes the exercises bearable by your joints.

According to their claims, you can burn up to 500 calories an hour with this machine. This is higher compared to 330 calories you get from exercise bikes and 250 calories from the treadmill.

But this depends on how intense you use the product. The machine allows you to do it slow or fast, and with higher or shorter strides.

Maxi Climber Features

The Maxi Climber boasts a simple and space-saving design. It takes up little space and can be folded to store it in even smaller places.

It does, however, need at least 8 feet of vertical space.

It has two pairs of handles. One handle is stationary to put your hands on for lower body workouts, while the other set moves as you move the foot pedals.

The foot pedals provide a good grip on your footwear with their jagged surface. However, this means it would be uncomfortable to use the machine barefoot.

Since the cold-rolled material is durable the machine can handle a considerable amount of weight and its design is suitable for any body type that falls within the weight limits.

It does feel sturdy but, due to its slim build, it is not recommended to go for very fast and intense exercises since it could make it wobble. You also need to observe proper posture while using this unit for the same reason.

If you're worried about making noise during workout, then the Maxi Climber's silent operation would be a good feature for you.

Because of this, you could exercise without disturbing others at any time of the day. Or you can watch TV or listen to music without the squeaky noises.

At just below 200 dollars, the Maxi Climber is a rather affordable full-body workout machine. This is also considering that cold-rolled steel is more costly than its hot-rolled counterpart.

At this price, the manufacturer also gives a one year warranty.

Whether you are tall or short, this vertical climber can accommodate various heights. It has five settings you can adjust the height to.

  • Weight Capacity
As mentioned, Maxi Climber can only be used by people weighing 240 pounds or less. This may already be a high range but it's a big downside for people looking to shed some weight.
  • Workout Type
Although you can vary the speed of the workout with this machine, it is still only one type of workout. And while it could work for the whole body, the exercise itself could get boring.

The resistance also has its limits. If you're only just starting to work out, this could be a great equipment to build endurance and muscle strength.

However, after a while you will hit a plateau because you cannot increase the intensity since it only depends on your body weight.

How to Assemble The Maxi Climber

Before beginning your workout, you first need to set up your Maxi Climber through some simple steps:

  1. Free up some space. Set up a six square foot space with an 8-foot high ceiling for your machine.
  2. Check if the parts are complete. The package should contain the main frame, two U-shaped bars, 2 separate handles, two stationary handles, a wrench, and attached nuts and bolts.
  3. Start with the base. The two U-bars in the package make up the base. Remove the attached nuts and bolts from the two cradles at the bottom of the main frame.

First, screw in the bigger U-bar into the bigger cradle using the included wrench. Then do the same with the smaller U-bar into the smaller cradle.
  4. Stabilize your equipment. To do this, you need to set the two legs apart by forming a triangle with its stabilizing bar.

Remove the safety pin holding this bar and let the bar down, parallel to the floor and insert the pin to hold the bar in place. Make sure it is pushed as far as possible to make the machine stable.
  5. Set up the pulleys. You can find several screws near where the foot pedals are attached at the front of the main frame.

Remove the nuts at the top middle bolts on the left and right parts. This is where you attach the circular ends of the pulley strings and put the nuts back in.
  6. Insert the handles. Begin by sliding the movable handlebars into the slots in the main frame, making sure that the hand grips are parallel to the ground.

Move on to the stationary handles by pushing them into the cylindrical tube in the main frame. Push the pins while pushing the handles in until they are snapped into place.

How to Use

To use the machine, observe proper posture while stepping one foot down and pulling the other side up at the same time. If you are stepping down on your right foot, pull the handle upwards on your left side, and vice-versa.

Depending how fit you are, you can vary your workout times. The average duration you can use the machine is 10 minutes.

This may seem like a short time, but the intensity of the workout can show results over time. You can also increase or decrease your speed and stride.

There are basically three positions you can do with the Maxi Climber depending on which muscles you want to target.

The first position is done by putting your hands on the stationary handlebars while moving only your legs. This is to target your lower body.

The second position is done by placing your hands on the movable bars, with your palms facing your body. This specifically targets the biceps for the upper body portion of the workout.

The third position is done by placing your hands on the movable bars, with your palms facing forward. This is for targeting the triceps for the upper body portion of the workout.
