Speaking to Virginia State Employees
Had a chance to meet and speak to a group of employees of the state of Virginia and they posted it on Youtube. So many nice people out there. I come in at the 6 minute 30 second mark. Enjoy!
This is FANTASTIC!!! As a future dietitian, I just wanted to thank you for inspiring people, focusing on lifestyle change without the quick fix and the difficulty of maintaining weightloss. I have so much to learn about the psychological impact on weight loss. Keep up the good work and I look forward to future posts!!
Bob, once again, you are awesome. You have such insight and understanding of what people actually go through to lose weight. Please know with my going into details that I appreciate you SO MUCH for that. Thank you–you are truly a God-send. Rhonda
Bob, what a wonderful & inspirational speech. God has truly blessed you with a great gift and I am so thankful you are using that gift to change and save people’s lives.
Bob, I love that you are so real with people. No fluffy, feel good answers (which don’t work)! I have recommended your book to everyone I know because it is the only book that I have seen that works on the “why we are where we are” first before even looking at the “how do we change with food and exercise.”
I am so glad that you are able to have opportunities to talk to a room full of people and give them the reality of healthy lifestyles and not to compare themselves to others. That is such a hard concept to grasp, I fight with it all the time
and most of the time can get a grip on it.
Thank you for your passion to see others live the best lives that they can and motivating so many of us to reach that goal!
Cheers!
Hi Bob. When will your site be back up? I used this site like every day last year I had a minor melt down when it shut down without warning at the end of January. Journaling I guess became a little addicting for me and when I couldn’t do it I fell off for the whole month of February. Change is hard for me, so I’ve just now in March got back to exercising and trying to eat right again. Is there some sort of time frame I can look forward to for the site to be back up and running? I miss my journal and my Bobs. : (
Hey Bob!
I got so excited to hear you were here in Virginia even though I was not there. I think what you do with the people on the Biggest Loser and in general is fantastic. I applied to go on the show back about six years ago, but obviously did not get chosen. I did get inspired by you and what everyone was doing on that show. I kept saying I was going to do something, but I couldn’t put myself first (which you mention in the video). Well my dad has bad health and had a heart attack and it opened my eyes to the point of realization that I don’t wanna be like that.
So my 24 year old, 293 pound body decided it was time to change. I got some of the BL DVD’s and books and changed my eating habits. It was a slow process, but you always say it isn’t about quick fixes. Well here I am two years later, down 105 pounds at 188. I went from a size 24 jeans to a size 12, a XXL shirt to a Medium, and I am training to run the Broad Street 10 mile run in Philly with another former fat friend and the Virginia Beach Rock & Roll half marathon. I was like if the people on the BL can do it, so can I. So thank you for inspiring me and helping me even though I have actually never met or talked to you. You are an amazing trainer and I hope one day I will get the honor of meeting you, but keep doing what you are doing.
~Wendy S.
I am better for having heard this speech. How great they are to be willing to post it. You are inspirational…and Wendy S. in Philly…good luck on your run and WOW thanks for sharing your story. “If the people on the BL can do it, so can I.” Wow!
Thanks for posting your talk Bob. I am constantly looking for everything and anything to keep reinforcing what I am doing and trying to do in towards losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle.
You struck a cord when you talked about reactive and proactive……when I had a boss that was making life tough at work and I would moan and groan about it….my brother asked me a simple question, “Is your personal life in order?” “Because that is what you can control.” I realized that my finances weren’t great and my weight was out of control at 270. This was and still is something I think about when things get tough. It reminds me that I have control over my health.
Also, breaking the connection to food and habits was quite a ride and sometimes still is. If I wanted something bad enough, my mind would find a way to rationalize my way to it. I can remember leaving the store telling myself over and over outloud, “See you survived…you didn’t get that donut…and you survived….” Little steps but major victories.
I have got all the tools but just couldn’t get over the hump and sustain a healthier lifestyle. I am three weeks using the Body Bugg and so happy with it. I just need to remember to be patient. I look at food now as what can it do for me rather than what is it going to do to me. I love exploring how a food benefits my body. cool stuff.
Thanks again and thanks for letting me share!
Hi Bob, I live in Sweden and we are looking at the Biggest looser even here – this evenings episod about Vicky..Vicki?
I am also 100procent sure that they are gaming – as long they are sure, she thinks if she is nice she can let him eat..of course he is eating extra, not nothing as they said….your hunches are right, you are a good trainer and it is a good program-hopefully many more episodes coming in the future.
Thanks.
Next season I can only hope for more people with more spiritually inside and not so much bithes….
bob i dont need to lose but a few pounds so thats not what this is about i was a runner in high school then i started smoking and i was a smoker for a very long time now i have quit and i know the damage has already been done but i want to be a runner again any help on how to get the lungs back into the long distance running please help
Thanks for such a great speech/pep talk.
I have spent so much time being a mom of two very special boys (one with Aspergers and one with bipolar) that I’ve forgotten about me and of course gained weight in the process. It’s so easy to relate to some of the contestants on BL.
This video is so encouraging and I’m starting to really focus on what I want which is my life back so I can be the healthy mom for my kids.
Thanks for always being a great motivator.

I love you Bob! I was a biggest looser in 1976 after graduating Alemany High School in Mission Hills, California. I decided that getting fit and trim could actually be attainable with less calories but mostly excercise. I had a rickety 12 speed bike my boyfriend rescued from the trash and I actually rode my bike to Malibu from Thousand Oaks through the canyon. I jogged walked, skated, biked and horseback rided my way to 130 lbs. in four months. I actually recognize the property on your weight loss ranch in or around Malibu. My starting weight was over 240. #1 FAN!!! After almost 30 years of marriage, foster parenting and having a child of my own I need to do it again. Thanks for the motivation. Peggy Fearing Hankin (Native Californian) currently in Tennessee.
Please feel free to join my blog about my trip across America this summer.
I’m new to this site. But I do have to say I love the biggest loser. My pastor at my church inspired me to start losing weight.I started on 2-18-2010 & i’ve now lost 38 lbs in 8 weeks.I have so many health issues. As many people do. The no soda thing I’ve been doing since Febuary. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.My dad died from PAD at age 42. He had to have both of his legs amputated, seizures, heart attacks, strokes 7 more before he died. I’m unfortunitly going down that same road. I just pray I lose this weight before I myself die, as I now have circulation problems in my legs to.
Bob, that was a great speech; you really are good at straight-talking about this subject. I appreciate it even more because my two sisters and I (we all live in different states from the East Coast to the West Coast) have been just recently contracting with each other to work out three-four times a week. I feel a bit of pressure to do well since I’m the heaviest of us (and always have been), and that gets me down sometimes. I really liked hearing your words in this talk you gave, because now I feel like I have a few techniques to try out that may increase the chances of my being successful.
Thank you so much! You are a person who has made a beautiful difference in the lives of others and I hope you realize how much people like, respect and trust you. I also love watching you on the show (I just starting watching with Season 8). Thank you for who you are, what you do and how you do it.

Thank you so much for sharing this video. It has been a major source of needed and extra inspiration. I learned a few new tricks to add to my tool box (such as what my waist size should be for example!). I am looking forward to sharing with you my success someday! Love yah Bob!
