Hey bob! I like to throw in some golden raisens and goji berries and let them boil for a min so they plump up. Yum, colorful and healthy!!

I don’t like oatmeal. Honestly, I don’t like a lot of things that are healthy: onions, tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, tofu, berries…is there a cheap alternate way to be healthy?

That’s how I eat it in the winter, and I add 1 tbspn almond butter. In the summer, I add berries or peaches with cinnamon. I look forward to breakfast every day, I love oatmeal.

I either put a tablespoon of peanut butter for protein or chop up a banana for some fiber.

I’ve been trying for years to like warm oatmeal. This really makes me want to like it even more. (it’s a consistency thing for me) I might just have to try it again using the fruit and almonds. Thanks, Bob!

Sounds super! Will be trying this combo for sure.

Looking forward to trying this but question: are there good and bad oatmeal types? I don’t know the difference between steel cut, Irish, McDonald’s oatmeal breakfast, Quaker with all their brands, etc. Please help me clarify. Thanks!

Love this idea. I always eat oatmeal in the mornings. It looks realy good. Thanks Bob :)

          Sandy June 28, 2011 at 7:54 pm

I will try that. I also love to add dried cranberries, pure maple syrup, a dash of ginger and cinnamon with pure extract vanilla. That is pretty good too.

          Kathy R June 28, 2011 at 8:03 pm

I put 1/3c oatmeal small banana, cinnamon, 1/3 c. pumpkin, 2T ground flaxseed, 2T PB2. I add water till mixed and microwave! Yummmm!!!!

          Lexi June 28, 2011 at 8:06 pm

It looks tasty, but does the oatmeal really soften all the way? I ask because I have diverticulosis and can’t eat raw oats. Watching you in the video, the oats look kinda raw.

          Charlita June 28, 2011 at 8:30 pm

Blueberries, walnuts, cinnamon and vanilla extract. YUM!

          Angie June 28, 2011 at 9:42 pm

Oops, just re-read my earlier reply. I don’t add almond butter in addition to the chopped almonds, I use it instead of. I love the smooth texture that it adds.

I love oatmeal in the morning. I buy large bags of frozen mixed berries and microwave about 1/2 cup of them (just to thaw them) and then put my cooked oatmeal on top of the berries with a little sprinkle of cinnamon. It reminds me of a berry cobbler. Yummmmm!

I like just a touch of brown sugar splenda on mine. I grew up eating butter and sugar on hot cereals…even grits. So while splenda might not be perfect, it is better than other things. I always have it with 3 scrambled egg whites made with a dash of unsweetened almond milk, a chopped half roma tomato, and a sprinkle of fat free shredded cheddar to hold it together. Now I’m hungry…thanks. LOL

My Dad used to put M and M’s in my oatmeal. Just a few, or some chocolate chips

I make overnight oatmeal lately. This is what is in my bowl for tomorrow morning.

          1/3 cup oats
2/3 cup light vanilla soy milk
          1 T chia seeds
          1 T carob powder
          tiny splash of maple syrup
          1/2 banana mashed
          1/4 oz walnuts
topped with a tiny spoon of cherry preserves and almond butter

sometimes I add nuts, other times I leave them out…same with the carob powder. Toppings are some times other nut butters, coconut, granola, fresh fruit. I vary the milk too…sometimes cow’s milk, sometimes soy, sometimes almond or coconut. Not the lowest in calories but it is all good food and keeps me full!

I leave it in the fridge overnight and eat it cold in the morning although you could heat it. No cooking required though since the oats soften overnight.

That actually looks delicious!! I have a question about breakfast: I like to work out in the morning and am getting conflicting advice on breakfast. Some experts recommend eating before and some recommend after a morning workout. What do you recommend?

          Cathy B June 29, 2011 at 2:10 am

I like a sweet taste to my oatmeal, without the sugar..

          Cooked Oatmeal
          1 pkg equal sweetener
          1/2 small banana, chopped
drizzle with sugar free maple pancake syrup.

          Yummm. :)

I’m just finishing a bowl of this – amazingly delicious!!

I love oats! I’m currently eating mine with pitted, fresh cherries, but my favorite combo is usually 1/2 banana, oats, water, and natural vanilla protein powder with cinnamon and ground flax. It keeps me full for hours!

My new creation is chocolate chip cookie oats since I dont actually eat cookies

          1/4 C steel cut oats
          1 C water
1 Scoop cookies and cream protein powder
          Cook for 3 Minutes
Pour a dash of almond milk and cinnamon and stir
Top with an ounce of sugar free dark chocolate chopped
And a Tablespoon of Chopped Pecans or Walnuts
